Colors that sing

. . .and the world cannot be discovered by a journey of miles, no matter how long,
but only by a spiritual journey, a journey of one inch,
very arduous and humbling and JOYFUL,
by which we arrive at the ground at our own feet,
and learn to be at home.  Wendell Berry

Last month, I spent a day in a periodontist’s chair in Guatemala City.  It was a surgery I had not planned for, a unexpected “surprise.”  And it’s easy to be derailed when life goes off script.  It doesn’t matter what I preach, teach or believe. . .when live goes off script, I just hate that.

But here’s the deal. . .

“When we begin to concentrate on what our life isn’t, and neglect to reflect on and actively pursue what it is, trouble will almost certainly follow.”  Keith Clark

My days recovering–and savoring liquid meals–is assuaged by the beauty and pace of life in Antigua. . .where fragrance and color come to life.  I walk down a cobbled street.  And see a color palate that stops me in my tracks.  I stand, and smile.  So here’s our idea for the day. . .look around you. . .look for colors that sing.

“Why do two colors, put one next to the other, sing? Can one really explain this? No.” Pablo Picasso

This is my living faith, an active faith, a faith of verbs: to question, explore, experiment, experience, walk,
run, dance, play, eat, love, learn, dare, taste, touch, smell, listen, speak, write, read, draw, provoke,
emote, scream, sin, repent, cry, kneel, pray, bow, rise, stand, look, laugh, cajole, create, confront,
confound, walk back, walk forward, circle, hide, and seek.  Terry Tempest Williams
