Helps The Mind

>I have spent several days of continued frustration with our (lack of) Internet connection. Isn’t it remarkable that with technology, there is a point where privilege and amazement morph into entitlement? Now our toys become just another one of life’s inconveniences, and an occasion to hone our aptitude for umbrage.
So.

We’re on vacation.

However.

We’ve had no Internet.

In a place that promises Internet.

And it is getting my goat.

I know. I know. Jesus reminded us, “Do not worry.” (Translation, “Worry if you want, but it won’t help anything.”) And, “Let not your heart be troubled.” But then, remember that Jesus did not need to concern himself with a need to blog about his activities. (Although I’ve heard he has his own MySpace page. Really.)

But then. . .that is the nuisance with worry: it preoccupies and consumes and distracts, so that our mind is obsessed by what is undone, or unraveled, or at odds. We can easily forget what started all the fuss and domino affect in the first place.
“Dad,” Zach tells me as I fuss and fret over the computer, “I have an idea for your next book. Call it, How Hawaii Helps the Mind.”
“Okay,” I tell him. “But first, I need Internet. By the way, how does it help the mind?”
“Well, I don’t worry. I feel good.”
“Oh. Okay.”
Maybe I should just let Zach blog.
