So my son and his friends were talking about Super Heroes. . .and debating which superpower would be most advantageous to have. I still go with Superman, but then I’m partial to flying. . .
I bring this up, because the other day I walked on water. It’s heady and all that. . .but it hardly counts as a superpower, especially when the only thing you are “saving” is a golf ball. I suppose I could have used the skill to save real lives or help out humanity, but sometimes it’s enough just to get by, and focus on the cares of the moment. And even when Jesus walked on water, he used it as some kind of lesson for Peter in order to teach him that you may only take a few steps before you give in or go under, but it’s still enough to know that sometimes–when you get out of your own way–anything is possible.
If your life is free of failures, you’re not taking enough risks.
I tend to focus on the going under part a lot more than I do on the taking a few steps in the right direction part. And I don’t get a chance to savor the moment, however brief. Maybe you can relate. . .
My garden is growing but I haven’t been blogging much because I’ve been bailing water from my website boat. . .And I’m learning more about technology / website software platforms and plug-ins than I ever wanted to know. Although I did discover this: the more you learn in this field, the denser you feel. If you have been reading my Blog previously, you are aware of my ongoing drama with my website and my troubles with the shopping cart. Now it appears that I was blogging into cyberspace without an RSS feed (like having a party but deciding not to tell anyone about it). (Granted, sometimes that kind of party is just what the doctor ordered, you know, sitting on your patio at dusk with your favorite wine and your dog, and nobody else around for miles, save for the life-giving voices of Placido Domingo and Kiri Te Kanawa.)
But when you blog, it would be a good thing to invite people to the party. . .
The RSS feed tells me a new blog entry has arrived. When I switched my blog from blogger.com to my site terryhershey.com, there was an inadvertent lapse in the switchover. . .and the RSS feed was shut off. . .
I’ve had people email me, and ask why I quit blogging. Now I have an answer: I blog, I just don’t tell anyone about it. . .
So. . .I’d be grateful if you told someone. . .or if you don’t want to pass the word about the blog, at least let people know that I did walk on water, for a couple steps anyway. . .or tell people that if they like watching dusk settle, and enjoy red wine and dogs and Opera, and don’t need to talk much, they can join me on my patio if they are ever in the neighborhood. . .
To make sure you get the RSS feed (the reminder of a new blog entry), make sure you have hit the orange icon (on this page) and follow the prompts. Many followed as Google Friends, but they, too, were lost in the change-over. If you were a follower on Google Friends, (if you are reading this, it means you found your way back for which I’m grateful. . .but it also means you have to re-sign up. . .click the link on the left, JOIN THIS SITE). Sounds awful complicated. . .and it probably is, more than it needs to be. The good news is that we’re getting it figured out. . .
Oh yes. . .in case I forgot to tell you. . . you can join my Facebook page for a Daily Pause Reminder. Here’s yesterday’s. . .
Someone asked me if I “accomplished” anything this week. . .Yes, I said, I learned a new story.
The wife says to husband, “What are you doing today?”
Husband, “Nothing.”
“Nothing,” says the wife. “That’s what you did all day yesterday!!!”
“I know,” answers the husband. “But I didn’t finish.”
Yes, risk taking is inherently failure-prone. Otherwise, it would be called sure-thing-taking. Tim McMahon

I wondered about the missing rss feed. Good you got that taken care of. Re technology: it’s all the stuff they forget to tell you, or assume you know, or have in super fine print as a footnote in the manual. And just when you get it sort of figured out, it gets updated, and there’s a whole new set of stuff to deal with. Makes one look longingly at stone tablets now and then. Ok, have you added to my g-reader.
