Work it in

In grade school art class, if Zach made a “mistake” (some splotch or blemish) on his painting project, the teacher would say, “That’s okay. Work it in.” Which is another way of saying that beauty can be found in places where we least expect it, even (and maybe especially) in places of imperfection. After all, what makes us vulnerable makes us beautiful, for vulnerability is the birthplace of tenderness and creativity and joy.
So if there’s a splotch in your day. . .
pause. . .
and work it in.
(The painting is from The Cambodian Children Painting Project)

Finding beauty in a broken world, is creating beauty in a world that we find.  Terry Tempest Williams
